My work tends to nod towards absurdity, collecting and archiving. I enjoy poking and testing boundaries and perceptions and try to retain a naive curiousity when it comes to rules, procedures and methods. I make publications, multiples and editions — usually these don’t require a gallery to be seen, although they are sometimes seen in galleries.

In 2005 I set up Café Royal Books, which now runs separately to my practice, although there is common ground.

My work is held in many public and private collections, including the V&A, Tate, MoMA, National Galleries of Japan, Canada, Wales and Scotland, The Bodeliain Library Oxford, the Martin Parr Foundation, the Hyman Collection and many university collections, mueums, libraries and archives. Past clients include the New York Times, Adidas, Orange, GQ, Esquire, and Harper’s.
I’m a part-time Senior Lecturer and year tutor on a Fine Art undergraduate course in the UK, and a visiting lecturer to many Fine Art, Illustration and Photography courses. I became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2018.

My research around preserving, presenting and making accessible, British documentary photography, is highly regarded and has been submitted to the Research Excellence Framework in 2014, and 2021, accompanied by an Impact Case Study.
